The Art of John Holland

All Month

Flow in nature is raw, volatile, constantly changing, and at peace with its internal chaos. My process begins with photographs of the James River, using them as a sketchbook of moments. After layers of coaxing, the paintings begin to play, whispering what they want to be. They are a dialogue with the landscape and the sum of its parts. By extending the rocks, water, and sky onto the edges of the canvas, each piece becomes an object to be experienced rather than an image to be consumed

Beneath the surface, emerging colors reflect and refract light, offering an escape from the frantic architecture of modern attention. The natural movement of fluid dynamics meshes with the dramatic contrast of light and dark in graphic novels and the bold techniques of street art. Each piece presents a moment of heightened sensory awakening. By favoring playful color over rigid realism, this work invites the viewer to unplug, become fully present, and find gratitude in the world's imperfect beauty.
